General Education Development (GED) Testing

The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) offers General Education Development (GED) testing. The GED diploma qualifies adults to enter college and to meet job requirements.

The GED test consists of five tests: science, writing skills, social studies, reading, and mathematics. Each test is available in English and Spanish. All questions are multiple choice, except for the writing skills test, which requires an essay. GED applicants must receive a score of 410 or better on each test and an average standard score of 450 in order to pass.

Upcoming Changes to GED:

A new computer-based version of the GED battery of tests will be launched January 1, 2014. The old and new version of the tests cannot be combined, so if you plan to take the GED battery of tests in 2013, you must complete/pass all five tests by the December 20, 2013. If you don’t complete/pass the five tests by December 20, 2013, your tests and scores will expire and you will have to re-take all the tests with the new computer-based version (including the ones you have already passed). If you have any questions, please call 408-453-6886 or send us an email to Claudia Regalado at claudia_regalado@sccoe.org.

Arrangements to test individuals needing special accommodations can be made by calling (408) 453-6886 during our office hours. Please see calendar below for office hours. These hours are subject to change, so please check calendar frequently and call ahead to verify office hours.
