12 County Schools on 'Distinguished' List
SAN JOSE, CA – Twelve Santa Clara County schools were among the 343
California public elementary schools selected as 2008 California Distinguished
Schools, it was announced on April 9.
The schools and their districts:
Sylvia Cassell in Alum Rock Union Elementary; Cherrywood in Berryessa Union;
Fammatre Charter in Cambrian Elementary; Village School in Campbell Union;
Carolyn A. Clark and Silver Oak in Evergreen Elementary; Las Animas in Gilroy
Unified; George W. Simonds in San Jose Unified; Bullis Charter in the Santa
Clara County Office of Education; Laurelwood Elementary in Santa Clara Unified;
Foothill Elementary in Saratoga Union; and Ralph E. Noddin in Union Elementary.
The applications were evaluated by the CDE in partnership with the California
County Superintendents Educational Services Association, and with the help of
local educators from across the state.
The California School Recognition Program is designed to honor the state's
most exemplary and inspiring public schools. Elementary and secondary schools
are recognized during alternate years.
According to the CDE, 839 elementary schools submitted applications and were
identified for eligibility this year on the basis of their Academic Performance
Index and Adequate Yearly Progress results.
