Grace Mah Wins Provisional Appointment
SAN JOSE, CA – Grace H. Mah of Palo Alto was provisionally appointed to
the Santa Clara County Board of Education Wednesday during a special meeting at
the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
The board made its choice from three candidates who had applied to assume the
seat of Williamson M. "Bill" Evers, who resigned in February to take a
federal government position in Washington, D.C. The appointee is to serve until
the term of office of the seat expires in November 2008.
The appointee will represent Board Trustee Area 1, which includes the Palo
Alto Unified, Sunnyvale, Mountain View-Whisman school districts and the
corresponding portions of Fremont Union and Mountain View-Los Altos Union High
school districts.
By law the appointment maintains a "provisional" status for one month,
giving interested parties time to provide input to the board. A vote that would
make the appointment official is scheduled for the board's May 2 meeting.
Mah is a board member of the Palo Alto Family YMCA, a parent volunteer at
Hoover Elementary School in Palo Alto, and an advocate for a Mandarin language
immersion program in Palo Alto.
