CLASS TITLE: Computer Terminal Operator I/II
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To utilize a computer terminal and peripheral equipment in the transmission of data concerning migrant education students and to update and retrieve such data as necessary. Employees in the Computer Terminal Operator I classification receive direct supervision from a supervisory level within a well defined framework of policies and procedures. Employees in the Computer Terminal Operator II classification receive general supervision from a supervisory level within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for the accurate and timely input and output of data and information related to the maintenance of migrant education records and reports.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Operates a data terminal to enroll and disenroll migrant students and to update students’ records
Receives and responds to requests for information about migrant education students from school districts
Check files and records to obtain information
Receives data for transmission; verifies data for accuracy and completeness, and identifies errors in data received
Makes corrections in data or refers data to responsible party for corrections
Transmits and receives information from depository
Relays migrant information to requesting school districts
Maintains a file system for hard copy records of data transmitted and received to and from requesting school/districts
Prepares, receives, and reviews reports and related to assigned functions
Answers questions for and assists regional office and school district staff regarding migrant education policies, procedures, standards, ad/or requirements
May conduct periodic workshop sessions with school district personnel contacted in the course of work
Performs related duties as required
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
proper English grammar, usage, and spelling
modern office practices and procedures
Ability to:
speak and understand Spanish at a level sufficient to successfully perform required duties
type accurately at a rate required for successful job performance
learn the proper and efficient operation of assigned terminal printer and peripheral equipment
communicate effectively in both oral and written form
follow written and oral instructions
identify errors in data and make or suggest necessary corrections
accurately and rapidly verify data
schedule and prioritize job flow efficiently
establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
Computer Operator II
Generally, the required knowledges and abilities will have been acquired during at least one year of computer terminal operating experience.
