Student Services title

The Student Services Branch provides countywide educational programs for students with disabilities, students who are under court supervision, and students who are not attending regular school for various reasons. We also operate preschool and child development programs, provide environmental education to fifth- and sixth-graders, help districts run their own special education programs, and provide educational programs for children of migrant families.

ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS
The Alternative Schools Department provides educational programs for students who are under court supervision, or who are not attending regular school for a variety of reasons.

CHILDREN'S SERVICES
The Children's Services Department provides preschool, childcare, developmental programs, and comprehensive services for low-income children and their families in Santa Clara and San Benito counties. The department coordinates several government-funded programs, including: Head Start, State Preschool, Parkway Child Development Center, and Early Head Start.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION | WALDEN WEST
Walden West is a residential outdoor school for fifth- and sixth-graders from throughout Santa Clara County. Students, accompanied by classroom teachers, live and learn in an outdoor environment for a week. Our program is operated on the premise that students learn through hands-on activities in which the educational and living processes merge. Lessons in science, ecology and the environment are brought to life.

LOCAL EARLY EDUCATION PLANNING COUNCIL
The Local Early Education Planning Council (LPC) is a collaborative association of representatives from the early care and education field, including parents, child care providers, businesses, and government. A joint committee of board members from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Santa Clara County Board of Education oversees the Council.

MIGRANT EDUCATION | Web site
The COE’s Migrant Education program is designed to provide supplementary services to eligible migrant students. The program helps students to overcome education disruptions and language barriers and prepares them to transition to post-secondary education or employment.

SPECIAL EDUCATION
The Special Education Department provides a variety of instructional programs and services for infants, children, and youth with severe and low incidence disabilities from birth through 22 years of age. These students live at home, in licensed children’s institutions or at the local state hospital, and are served more effectively by the comprehensive programs offered by the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

SPECIAL EDUCATION LOCAL PLAN AREA (SELPA)
The Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) coordinates with school districts and the County Office of Education to provide a continuum of programs and services for disabled individuals from birth through 22 years of age.
